Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions

  • It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous before starting therapy. I aim to make the process feel as safe, supportive, and grounded as possible.

Think of it as a starting point — a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and anything that feels important to share. I might ask you some questions about your life, past and present, your relationships, your work. It’s up to you what you feel comfortable to share — we go at your pace. We will also chat about confidentiality and consent.

Before your session, you’ll receive an intake form to fill out — it helps me understand a few key details ahead of time so we can make the most of our first session together.

  • Each session is 50-minutes long. If it is your first session with me, please select the ‘Initial Session’ option in the booking system.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, others prefer fortnightly — it really depends on your needs, goals, and what feels manageable for you.

In my psychotherapy practice, I do find that consistent weekly sessions are most effective. We’ll chat about this together and find a frame that works.

  • Sessions happen via a secure video link so you can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space — no commute, no waiting room vibes. All you need is a private space, stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and mic. Prior to your session you’ll get a link sent to your inbox.

  • No big prep needed — just come as you are. Some people like to jot down a few thoughts or things they want to explore, but it’s totally okay if you’re not sure where to start. Therapy is a space we create together, and it can unfold naturally. Sometimes I might offer something to read, reflect on, or explore between sessions — but think of it more as encouraging curiosity, not homework!

  • Psychotherapy and Counselling are closely related —the main difference comes down to depth and focus.

Counselling often supports people through specific challenges or life transitions, like relationship issues, stress, or grief. It can often be shorter-term and more solution-focused.

Psychotherapy tends to be a deeper process — exploring long-standing patterns, past experiences, and the unconscious processes at roots of emotional and psychological struggles. It’s often longer-term, and can involve working through and integrating things like past trauma and relational dynamics, and developing the sense of self.

I use both approaches in my work, depending on what feels right for the client in front of me and their current needs. We’ll shape the space together based on what you need.

  • No — you don’t need a referral. You can book directly through this website whenever you’re ready to get started. If you're unsure whether I'm the right fit, you can book a ‘Quick Enquiry Call’ and we can have a quick chat first to help you decide.

  • You might be eligible to claim sessions through your Private Health fund but this depends on your specific provider and level of cover. Please check directly with your fund, as we don’t have any control over this.

Medicare doesn’t currently cover psychotherapy or counselling sessions. The upside? You have full control over what you want to work on, with no limits on the number of sessions.

  • Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know as soon as possible. I ask for at least 48 hours notice as this allows time to offer the space to someone who needs it. However, if you choose to cancel within the 48 hour time frame of your appointment you will be charged 50% of the full session fee.

You will receive an email reminder 72 hours before your appointment which allows you to cancel or reschedule, if needed.

  • Right now, I’m offering online therapy, making it easy for people across the country to access therapy.

  • Finding the right therapist is crucial, and it’s okay if we’re not the perfect fit. If that’s the case, we can talk openly about it, and I’m more than happy to help you find someone who might be better suited to your needs.

  • I understand that therapy is an investment. I reserve a limited number of low-fee spots for those experiencing financial hardship, so please contact me to discuss this further. If those spots are full, I will work with you to connect you to alternative resources and services that can meet your needs.
