Frequently Asked Questions Frequently Asked Questions

  • It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous before starting therapy. I aim to make the process feel as safe, supportive, and comfortable as possible.

As we will have had a pre-session consultation prior to your first session, a few key details will have already been shared which allows space to make the most of our first session together.

Think of it as a starting point and chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll chat more deeply about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and anything else that feels important to share. I might ask you some questions about your life, past and present, your relationships, your work. It’s up to you what you feel comfortable to share and we go at your pace. We will also chat further about confidentiality and consent.

  • Each session is 50-minutes in duration.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy. Some people benefit from weekly sessions, others prefer fortnightly — it really depends on your needs, goals, and what feels manageable for you.

In my psychotherapy practice, I do find that consistent weekly sessions are most effective, particularly initially. We’ll chat about this together and find a frame that works.

  • Online session happen via a secure video link so you can access therapy from the comfort and privacy of your own space. All you need is a private space, stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and mic. Prior to your session you’ll be emailed a a link for your online session.

  • No big prep needed — just come as you are. Some people like to jot down a few thoughts or things they want to explore, but it’s totally okay if you’re not sure where to start. Therapy is a space we create together, and it can unfold naturally. Sometimes I might offer something to read, reflect on, or explore between sessions — but think of it more as encouraging curiosity, not homework!

  • Psychotherapy and Counselling are closely related — the main difference comes down to depth and focus. I integrate both ways of working, dependent on what is suitable for each unique individual.

Counselling often supports people through specific challenges or life transitions, like relationship issues, stress, or grief. It can often be shorter-term and focused.

Psychotherapy tends to be a deeper process — exploring long-standing patterns, developmental experiences, relational dynamics and the unconscious processes at roots of emotional and psychological struggles. It’s usually a longer-term process, and can involve the integration of things such as attachment-based wounds and past trauma.

  • No, you don’t need a referral to work with me. Reach out via the ‘Contact’ page to book in a Pre-session Consultation.

  • You might be eligible to claim sessions through your Private Health fund but this depends on your specific provider and level of cover. Please check directly with your fund, as we don’t have any control over this.

Medicare does not currently cover psychotherapy or counselling sessions.

  • Life happens! If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know as soon as possible. I ask for at least 48 hours notice as this allows time to offer the space to someone who needs it. However, if you choose to cancel within the 48 hour time frame of your appointment you will be charged 50% of the full session fee.

You will receive an email reminder 72 hours before your session to allow for the opportunity to reschedule your session if required.

  • I do! Currently I am available for face-to-face sessions in Surry Hills (NSW) on Thursdays. Alternatively, I offer online therapy sessions, making it accessible for people across the country.

  • Finding the right therapist for you is crucial to the effectiveness of therapy, and it’s okay if we’re not the perfect fit. If that’s the case, we can talk openly about it, and I’m more than happy to help you find someone who might be better suited to your needs.

  • I understand that therapy is an investment. I offer a lower-fee rate for those with a concession card, so please contact me to discuss this further.
